Built in the 20th century with all the charm of history built in, Bonifacius Bridge is a romantic hotspot and photo point.

One of the most scenic spots in Bruges, Bonifacius Bridge (Bonifaciusbrug) has a reputation for its romantic atmosphere. Take in the charming canals and houses along the youngest bridge of Bruges. Built in 1910, the bridge blends into Bruges historic surroundings so well you wouldn’t know if we hadn’t told you! Behind the grand Church of Our Lady and the unique Gruuthuse Bridge, Bonifacius Bridge is a Bruges highlight.

  • Romantic legend: hear those wedding bells in the air? The story goes that when you finish walking across the bridge, the first person you see is the one who you will marry. Maybe don’t go rushing to the Church of Our Lady nextdoor right away, but it’s a nice thought.

  • Right next to the canal you’ll see a bust to the Spanish scholar Juan Luis Vives. Why does he have a bust here? Well, he actually spent most of his life in Bruges and even got married here.
