Grab a kayak paddle and take to the canals of Ghent through the canals in the city's historic centre on a kayaking trip.
There are a lot of options for exploring Ghent by water but kayaking is a super fun, active way to see the city. It’s a perfect way to see the sights for adventurous tourists or for locals looking for a unique activity. Best of all you can get on the water without having to squeeze on to a tourist boat!
Kajaks Korenlei, based at Hostel Uppelink, is located where the city’s Medieval harbour used to be. You’re right in the heart of the city’s old, picturesque, centre - only a 3-minute walk from the famous Korenmarkt. From the medieval bridge starting point, Sint Michielsbrug, you can see the famous Ghent skyline of the 3 towers.
You literally can’t get away from the great Ghentian views - because you’re stuck in a small boat in the middle of a canal. Gravensteen Castle is only a short paddle away and you’ll spend the day floating past cool gothic architecture and colourful buildings. You’ll definitely be wanting to take some pictures, just be careful if you fall! No worries unless you’re particularly bad at paddling, usually people don’t!
