Hunt for your family history or ready the Instagram filters when you visit this unique warehouse by the historic harbour

This warehouse used to be for storing coffee, wine, and hops for beer making. Now it’s used for something totally different. The city archives have made their home here since 2006 after years of moving around the city since WW2. Right by the harbour, Felix Archive is a nice spot to visit if you’re strolling along or want a deep dive into Antwerp’s history. The highlight here is the street inside the warehouse.

  • Felix Archive is divided in the middle by a very photogenic street with white walls and a high glass ceiling.
  • If you want to dig deep into history, the archives will happily welcome you into the reading room. It’s a must visit for researchers.
  • The warehouse holds about 24km or 15 miles of archives, so you could get lost in there.
  • Antwerp’s warehouses are usually named after their architects. Félix Pauwels designed this warehouse and also went on to help restore the Palace of the Princes-Bishops in Liège, so you know he had a sense of style.
  • What to do next? If you’re just popping in to look at the street, you’ll have lots of time to visit the nearby museums. You’ll be a short walk away from contemporary art museum MAS
  • Or you can head over to the Red Star Line Museum to learn even more about Antwerp’s harbour and migrant history
