Only in the spring! If you find yourself in Brussels around April, the royal lush greenhouses of Laeken are a must-see!

Only open for three weeks a year. This extravagant and exclusive garden opens up its doors in the spring to show off nature at its best. Everyone is welcome to come and take a stroll through the vibrant colours of Mother Nature in spring at the royal greenhouses. A royal history: the gardens were first made in the 18th century and the design was later commissioned by King Leopold II into the greenhouse you see today. Originally, it served as the royal chapel before being turned into a plant haven.

Don’t miss the royal botanique collection! The greenhouse is famous for it and for good reason. Explore inside the green houses to see plants from all over the world.

Some of the flowers found inside are even cultivated to use in the royal Belgian court! Sadly, much of the collection has diminished since the death of King Leopold II. His orange tree collection once had over 100 trees that had survived between 200 - 300 years. Still, this collection is a must-see for a spring holiday in Belgium.

  • 300+ species of camellias
  • 30+ orange trees in a royal collection. Smell that citrus!
  • 30+ pavillions to stroll through

The royal greenhouses are connected to the Winter Gardens. Impressive and filled with plants from Africa that King Leopold II likely came across while he was away for colonisation. The gardens are beautiful and worth a look, but it’d be wrong of us to not tell you how they came to be. Enjoy spring on a thoughtful stroll through the gardens!
