A unique looking 11th century church. St. Bartholomew’s hides a hidden gem of history in its stylish walls.

Now that’s a holy photo spot! Saint Bartholomew’s Church serves up unique looks in Liege with its iconic red highlights. The outside is photoworthy, but the inside is classy too. Decorated in the fancy French Baroque style, the inside of St. Bartholomew’s is worth seeing.

The church is one of the original collegiate churches of Liege. What’s a collegiate church? Basically, it’s a church with cannons. Yup, there’s been 30 cannons here since 1034.

  • Work of art: don’t miss the Baptismal Font. Made in the early 1100s by the mysterious metalworker Renier de Huy, the brass font shows the baptism of Jesus Christ. It’s an interesting work of art that you won’t see anywhere else. No, really, it seems like Huy didn’t make anything else like it. Or, if they did, it’s been lost to time.
  • A quick history stop: after paying the entry fee, you get a short leaflet in your language of choice plus an intro video to give you history info on the church. For history buffs and cultural deep divers, the church is a less visited gem where you’re going to learn something new on local history.
