Try weird and wonderful bikes on this wooden track on the beach. Bring the fam and have a shot at a crazy bike race. Go on a unicycle or team up on a two seater!

We’ve all been to the beach before and seen the regular attractions. De Lustige Velodroom is a pretty wacky but fun thing tourists and locals should try at least once. Pay the fee and you get to choose a few bikes to ride on the wooden track for 10 minutes.

We’re not talking about your usual bike you’d use to cycle around the park. We mean penny-farthings (those bikes with one big wheel and one small wheel), bikes with two seats facing opposite directions, and mini bikes.

It can be a little touristy in the summer and a bit busy. Even if you don’t have a go yourself, drop by in the summer to see the funny sight of everyone giving the crazy bikes a shot.

  • Beach Day: take the kids out for a day at the beach in the summer and release them into the velodroom. It’ll be good fun for the kids and even more fun for you to see them learn how to pedal these wacky bikes
  • Nostalgia Factor: sure, kids will love giving the velodroom a go but it’s popular with adults too! You might even see a bike you had as a kid here
  • Local History: the locals have had this velodroom since the 1930s. The Monbaliu family started the Velodroom and still own it. The 2nd owner, Louis Monbaliu, was actually a renowned bicycle acrobat. You won’t find anything else like the velodroom along the beaches of Belgium.
