Horror movie enthusiasts, this one's for you. The Brugge's Torture Museum will give you all the info you never knew you needed about medieval torture devices.

Of all the museums in the centre of Bruges, the Torture Museum is probably the most unique spot to visit. Discover the hidden medieval history of Bruges. If you thought maths exams were brutal, wait ‘til you see their collection. Get all the info on how they were used and who suffered during your trip. They don’t teach you this stuff in school.

As you might’ve guessed, this museum isn’t for the faint of heart. Still, it’s worth a look for all the history buffs and museum explorers out there. Especially since the museum is in Oude Steen. It’s actually one of the oldest buildings in Bruges. So why the heck do they keep a torture museum there? Well, yup, you guessed it. Oude Steen was the city prison.

  • 100+: Musee Torture Bruges has 100+ torture and execution devices on display. You’re getting a proper Horrible Histories education here. Sure, it’s not the biggest museum but it’s one you’re not likely to forget.
  • Your squeamish friends will love to know the descriptions and explanations of how they were used and who are offered in multiple languages and there’s a guidebook in English. There’s no escape or excuse.
  • Spooky: stay spooky after your trip in the Torture Museum by grabbing a bite to eat at the gothic Retsins Lucifernum bar or see if you can spot ghosts at the beguinage Ten Wijngaerde.
