A jewel of Tournai’s history. Come see the 5 towering spires and the rose stained glass window of the medieval cathedral.

Restoration: Tournai Cathedral is undergoing restoration work until 2025. You can still go into the cathedral, but some parts are blocked by construction.

Along with the nearby belfry, Tournai’s Cathedral is an iconic landmark of the city. For its five spire towers and well-preserved medieval architecture, Tournai’s Cathedral is also a Wallonia Heritage site and UNESCO World Heritage Site. If you’re in Tournai for a culture trip, the cathedral is a must-see. Plus, it’s right in the historic city centre and super close to the belfry.

Climb to top of its towers for city views of Tournai! Tournai is Belgium’s oldest town, so there’s plenty to see from above.

  • Rosy sight to see: the cathedral is known for its beautiful rose stained glass window. It’s 7m long and shows off parts of Tournai’s history. A visit to the cathedral isn’t complete without it.
  • Treasury: the cathedral is free to visit, but the treasury costs 2.50€. What will you see here? Well, there’s 2 shrines, the tapestry of Aras (the oldest choir hanging in the West), and more religious treasures. Worth the charge for history buffs.
  • Other bits and pieces: keep your eyes peeled for these easily missed highlights of Tournai Cathedral. The central choir screen was made by Corneille de Vriendt, a Flemish sculptor. Look up at the columns in the centre of the cathedral to see detailed stonework.
