Enjoy this outdoor sculpture and technical wonder of Franz Kafka right in the heart of Prague.

One of the unique things about Prague is that the art around the city is quite unusual and unique and this piece on Franz Kafka is no different. In a way this makes it appealing to non-artsy folk as well!

The rotating head, yes rotating!, has forty-two layers and built-in motors to make sure that the statue is constantly moving and rotating. Twice an hour the head of Franz stops for 15 minutes at the perfect spot before it starts going again for another 15 minutes. You’ll never have to wait long to see this piece of art in action.

It’s quite strange and different but as you’ve seen from the Prague TV tower with the “babies” crawling all over it then you’d understand this is quite normal for Prague.

The rotating head of Franz has been such a popular stop for tourists since its addition to Prague in 2014. The fact that it’s so close to Wenceslas Square, one of the most popular streets in the city, just makes it more attractive.

  • Franz Kafka was actually born right here in Old Town Prague in 1883. Many say he was one of the most influential writers of the 20th century.
  • Because of Unesco, lots of the buildings in Prague stay rather untouched because of the regulations. That’s one of the reasons as to why there is a lot of art, sculptures, and other artsy things around the city.
  • Around the Franz Kafka sculpture, you will find small malls, shops, and cafes to visit. The area has become quite a popular place to visit and explore since the addition of Franz’s rotating sculpture.
