Stop by for this hidden picnic spot while doing a walk in the Haspengouw region and don't forget to stop by the reading between the lines church nearby! Pick some seasonal fruit while you're at it.

While walking or biking the nearby trails make sure to stop by at this tucked away green oasis. Hidden quite well as the sign is only posted inside behind the bushes, keep your eye out for a couple of steps that take you into this hidden gem. At the family-friendly Speelboomgaard, which literally translates to, you guessed it “play orchard”, you can pick organic fruit off the trees and take in the beautiful natural scenery Limburg has to offer.

  • Plan a peaceful picnic between the blossoms if you’re around in Springtime and explore your surroundings, the invisible church art piece is nearby.
  • Kids can enjoy the playground and with the surrounding picnic benches, there is plenty of seating to relax.
  • Summer fruit picking: The start of tree fruit and berry season is the start of summer and lasts throughout. Harvest some fresh cherries and apples to snack on and keep an eye out for badgers, hedgehogs, garden dormice, and little owls!
  • The orchard is open to the public and is run by the city, so if you’d like to camp overnight or set up a barbeque, it’s a good idea to get permission from the city beforehand. Bonfires are allowed and always fun to do with family and friends, just make sure it’s kept in a fire pit and done safely.

Tips and Tricks

Getting There

  • By Car: Parking on Sint-Truidersteenweg may be easiest if you don’t mind the short 13 min walk. Otherwise there is a narrow gravel road that will take you to the Speelboomgaard but we don't recommend it, it's meant more for tractors.
  • By Bus: 15 min walk from bus stop Borgloon Grootloonstraat.
