Visit a wine castle in scenic Haspengouw - a castle of wine - and tour the largest vineyard in Belgium with a wine tasting afterwards. Yes, please!
Wander the gardens and vineyards of the country’s largest wine estate and top the day off with a little wine tasting, what could be better!? This activity is perfect for groups, a romantic day out, birthdays, anniversaries, and anyone who fancies themself a wine connoisseur.
Wine Castle of Genoels-Elderen is a historic place in Haspengouw, the first castle was built all the way back in the 13th century and was one of the region's most important properties...and then it was destroyed by the people of Tongeren. Luckily though, history hasn’t repeated itself and the current castle has stood tall since 1859.
The estate, wine shop and bar are open all year round, apart from the Christmas/New Year period. In the summer months, there’s the added bonus of an outdoor terrace, so you can enjoy a glass or two in the sun.
Tours
Book a guided tour and stroll through the castle’s park and gardens, arboretum - where you’ll see some special 300-year-old trees - and of course Belgian’s largest vineyard. Learn all about the history of the property and wine-making process from grape to glass, or ‘vinification’ if we’re going to get technical.
After a 90 minute guided tour, add a wine tasting to the experience - you’ve earned it after all that walking. Try up to 7 wines, any more than 4 and you get some breadsticks thrown in. Prices increase with each tasting glass and can be viewed here.
Guided tours and tastings should be reserved. Reservation enquiries can be made here.
