Fruit picking is the perfect family-friendly thing to do this summer season! Find a local orchard near you from Bruges over to Wallonia, Belgium has plenty of fruity fields to choose from.

1. Flower Picking Garden in Aartselaar

🧭 Aartselaar, Antwerp

From the start of May through to the end of June, you can discover many different species of tulips and daffodils amongst other flowers and small fruit to self-harvest in a memorable day in Aartselaar. Ben’s flower picking meadow (or Bloemplukweide) is set up in the village of Groenenhoek, where you can harvest your own fresh fruit and flowers next to the provincial domain De Baliekouter, which has cycling, walking, and horseback riding routes alongside it.

Afterward, you can sit in the shade at the picnic benches and enjoy your packed lunch and some fruit juices or tea. Top it off with some homemade artisanal ice cream or sorbet made every year on site with freshly picked fruit.

2. Summer Days at O'Bio Self-Harvesting Garden in Wielsbeke

Ready to go fruit picking this summer? Free your mind and come on down to this self-picking garden of berries. Depending on when the season begins for each fruit, the variations available to you change from week to week, but will last the whole summer.

Starting from the 21st of June, the O’bio urban farm is open from Monday through Saturday, from 10:00 to 18:00. You can start picking once you’ve gone in through the farm shop where staff will help you begin your visit with info and supplies.

3. The Cozy Raspberry Plantation of Redu

Wallonia is known for its French old cottage villages and lush nature that's above and beyond the rest. Literally, they’re geographically higher than the rest of Belgium. What else to love about this region? The quaint small and local businesses that make your visit really special. La Framboiseraie of Redu is no exception to this. 

Don’t miss out on the yummy fresh fruit and other goodies. Discover fresh raspberries and other fruits, jams, vinegar, and wines out of their shop. After a mini shopping spree, take a seat at their cozy tavern where you can eat their artisanal products. Come here to taste, pick, and purchase fresh products straight from nature.

4. Friendly farming folk at Ferm Laar-Zemst

Find your green thumb at Ferm Zemst!

What do you think about organic farming? Reconnect with your local flora and fauna at Ferm Zemst. There’s a major community feel here since Ferm is always welcoming  locals and tourists alike to learn about local farming. You’ll be picking the latest fruits and flowers of the season and supporting local business at Ferm. You’re welcome, Mother Nature! 

Ferm is totally seasonal. Follow nature and get with the harvest. There’s more than fruit picking to do, though. Join in with the community and be part of the educational and skill-building workshops, tours, open days, and events.

5. Family Fun at Borgloon’s Speelboomgaard

🧭 Borgloon, Limburg

At the family-friendly Speelboomgaard, which literally translates to “play orchard”, you can pick organic fruit off the trees in this park with your family. Aimed at educating young kids, this free activity is fun for all that come along!

Here you can find a playground with surrounding picnic benches and natural scenery of the orchard life at play. The start of tree fruit and berry season is the start of summer and lasts throughout.

The orchard is open for the public and is run by the city, so if you’d like to camp or set up a barbeque, it’s a good idea to get permission from the city beforehand. 

When your picnic and fruit picking activities come to an end you can learn firsthand about local fruits and the habitat of different animal species. The Speelboomgaard is always open. Education and fun in the outdoors meet here for the perfect family outing.


For 1 day only! Public fruit harvesting in Boomgaard Chartreusinne Brugge

Line up, line up! Each September, for 1 day only, you can join in with this annual fruit picking activity. It’s tradition. Every year, at the orchard of Chartreusinne, 1,000+ visitors come by to go fruit picking. A super family-friendly classic of Bruges. It is here in the city of Bruges that many families come and enjoy this weekend activity in the outdoors to bring home up to 5 kilograms of fruit. The limit is set to make sure everyone gets the chance to join in.

What is leftover of the fruit is harvested and donated to those that need it most. From 9:00 to 18:00, people are welcome to join in on this annual activity after making reservations in advance. Find out more about this event here.
